David M. Gibson: Pastel Paintings and Pencil Drawings.
Stanford & the A's |
|
"My upcoming show at the Gallery at A.C.T. includes pencil drawings from the 1980's, pastel landscapes from the 1990's, and pastel interiors done from 2000-2006. The work is all representational, it is all drawing at it's essence. The pastels though very large and worked over and handled in many ways like paintings, still look like drawings. All of my work to some extent is a balance between the abstract and the very specific and representational, and almost all looks carefully at my immediate surroundings. I consider my work to be a kind of celebration of drawing, the act, the process, the personal nature of---and also of looking carefully at what is right in front of me as a way to get at the universal. I continue to make monotypes, pencil drawings, pastels, and oil paintings; each process asks different skills and approaches of me, and each endeavor informs the work in the other medium. I hope the varied work in this show reveals that too. Each Gallery at the Geary artwork purchase benefits A. C. T.
